Take the nation to the next level

The political parties and in particular Congress(I) and its secular gang seems to be busy dividing the country on the lines of caste (Mandal I & II) and religion. Mr. Arjun Singh has been successful in taking the country to even lower levels – I would request him to pay some attention to primary education, which is one of the pillars of making a new and vibrant nation.

The barometer that has been used to judge the efficiency of the system has been the literacy level. The levels seems to have improved, leaving the exception of BIMARU states, however, I would want the system to be taken to the next level. We need to be able to have make the base level of education system so strong that it should be able to produce an army of technicians to work in the manufacturing and BPO sectors.

Let us take a look at the success stories, the recent diamoncluster survey indicate a possible loss of business for India to high cost locations like Canada. The reason shortage of manpower, the BPOs have not been able to move successfully to tier 2 of India despite the strategy being so touted to as the next break they needed. The strategy is seemingly good but I would reckon that it would be solving the attrition problem more than supply shortage to that extent. The reason for my statement would be that tier 2 of India already supplies a great number of people working in the BPOs, the cost and attrition may come down as people find employment near their home but the real problem of a lacking good education system would remain. Some of you would argue that India BPO is large and has already produced the result – I would agree and remind you all that the opportunity is much larger and we should be able to capture it.

On the manufacturing sector, there is a need for us to replicate the success of Taiwan or Korea, but that would not be possible without a greater availability of talent pool.

Some thoughts of how we can contribute:
- Attach ourselves with NGOs that adopt villages for education
- If still connected with the roots, contribute to the local village school and its welfare
- Walk to the nearest jhugi cluster and influence greater adoption of schooling… one can work with some NGO nearby as they will help with experience of handling similar issues
- Use the RTI to find out the current funds are being used
